They are programmed with automatic learning algorithms. Enable them to recognize voice, text and generate natural language, to engage in a coherent conversation. Good examples of their application are Siri and Alexa (Smart Speakers) which integrate chatbots into their system.

The year 2019 is the year of the chatbot in companies thanks to their availability, speed, and efficiency.

They are being integrated into areas of communication and customer service. It may seem contradictory, but they are intended to “humanize” processes, because chatbots can go much further than just automate response to a given question.

We might not realize it, but this type of smart technology is present in our everyday lives. Its applications continue to expand: payments and transfers, digital wallets, recognition systems, points of sale, entertainment, messaging services… But also in talent acquisition.

Chatbots

They are integrated into recruitment processes, to interact with candidates and to learn from them with each interaction. They provide candidates with immediate, and personalized assistance with their requests, questions about the position, or the company, the status of their application, and administrative tasks, among others. These aspects are greatly appreciated by candidates.

However, given their popularity, their application is massive and sometimes unnecessary. The idea is to simulate a conversation, not to make candidates believe that there is a real person on the other end. Trust is vital, and therefore chatbots cannot provide a solution to everything. They don’t understand the context, and there will always be an emotional side that they cannot simulate.

In any case, chatbots should be used as an additional resource, never as a replacement for your recruiters. We mustn’t forget that, these systems do what they are programmed to do, and will not stray from these patterns. The possibility that robots can have “free will”, is a much more extensive matter and would make for an interesting debate.

The use of chatbots is indeed spreading throughout HR, as a smart way of improving interactions with candidates, and efficiently, managing information and the data obtained from it. Chatbots are the perfect partner in data technology.
